According to the Rowe's of England website, Robert de Asheby (shown in the 2nd or 3rd generation below), submitted a plea before the Justice of the King in Norfolk and in 1332. This web page shows the Coat of Arms for the Ashby family and gives an interesting summary of this family.

In the 10th to 11th generation shown below George Ashby, I who was the High Sheriff of County Leicester in 1601, inherited "Quenby Hall/Manor" upon the death of his father in 1558. The family holdings reached a total of 1,900 acres of land. The large family Manor was in the hands of the Ashby family for several generations and now servers as a museum and convention center. 		The Ashby's are a prominent family in the Winchester, Virginia area. There is a town named after Captain Thomas Ashby, Sr called "Ashby's Gap". Thomas can be found in the 14th generation below.

In the 18th generation below, one of the most famous descendents of Captain Thomas Ashby, is civil war hero and leader Brigadere General Turner Ashby, (see below).

DNA Analysis - Teresa Lanham (Harwood) and her father Henry W Lanham both appear as cousins via Ancestry.com DNA analysis. Ancestry.com predicts that we are 5th to 8th cousins, with moderate confidence. My research indicates that we are 8th and 9th cousins respectively.
