Age 24 - In the 1870 Census (Page: Virginia > Clarke > Chapel > 31) Jacob is 26 years old living and is living with his Father in Chapel Township, Clark Co., VA.

Age 44 - In 1890 a Emily O Stickel was born to a "Jake" Stickles - Birth Registry #123

Age 54 - The 1900 Census lists Jacob as married and that they have been married for 20 years. Jacob is 53 years old and Sallie is 43 years. Sally gave birth to 8 children and three are still living. Two children are living at home: Grover C (15 yrs), and Rose (9 yrs). Jacob was renting a farm and was working as a farmer.

Age 64 - The 1910 Census shows Jacob and Sallie living in the Middleway District of Jefferson Co., VA. They have been married now for 30 years. Jacob is 64 and Sallie is listed as 63 (but the correct age is 53). Jacob is again shown to be renting a farm and working as a farmer. This census shows her as having given birth to 3 children and all are living. Grover C (24 yrs) and Rose (18 yrs) are both living at home. There are also two grandchildren living with them: Annie Poston (9 yrs) and Markim Poston (8 yrs).

Age 74 - The 1920 Census (Frederick > Shawnee > District 42 > 16) shows the couple living in Shawnee District, Frederick Co., VA. Jacob is 74 and Sallie is 63. All three children are living at home: Edith E. (36 yrs), Grover C (26 yrs), Rose L. (30 yrs). Edith is shown as being married and Grover and Rose are single.

Age 84 - The 1930 Census shows Jacob living with his daughter Rose L and Rose's husband Samuel P Hanen. Samuel is listed as the head of the family. They are all living in Winchester, VA. Jacob is 84, Rose is 39 and Samuel is 62. Jacob is listed as widowed. Samuel and Rose have a daugher Lillian (11 yrs) living at home. Samuel's occupation is a carpenter.

The obituary for March 23, 1934 in the Winchester Evening Star indicated Jacob's father as Joseph A Stickel of Paris, Fauquier Co., Virginia. He died at his home on 618 South Loudoun Street, Winchester, VA. He was survived by his wife Sallie R. Locke, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Zachariah Locke of Jefferson County, WV. and his son, Grover C. Stickel or Winchester, VA and two daughters Mrs. S. P. Hanen of Winchester and Mrs. W. W. Poston of Summit Point, WV, and one brother Simon P. Stickel of Paris, VA. He also leaves behind 7 grandchildren, Reuben Poston of Gaithersburg, MD, Mrs. Richard Boxwell of Winchester, Sidney Poston of Mount Hope Sanatorium, WV, Miss Pauline Geneviere, Martha, Ruth and Sallie Poston of Summit Point and two great grand children: Eleanor May and Richard Lee Boxwell, Jr.
