Age 5 - The 1850 Census lists his father Joseph Stickle as 38 years and his wife Harriet is 34. Joseph's occupation is listed as a laborer. Their real estate value is listed as $80. Everyone in the home was born in Virginia. Joseph's father George was living with them and his age is 82. The oldest child is listed as a 7 year old male but the name "Eve". The other children Geo (age 5), Jacob (age 5), Ann (age 2) and Ed (7 mos.)

Age 15 - In the 1860 Census Joseph "Stickles" is married to Harriett and there are 9 children living in the home. John Martin (18 yrs), George R. (15 yrs), Jacob (14 yrs), Barbara (10 yrs), James W. (8 yrs), Mary (7 yrs), Joseph A. (5 yrs), Henry J. (3 yrs) and Sarah (1 yr). Joseph is listed as a farmer and is oldest son John M is listed as a laborer. Age 35 - The 1880 Census for Loudoun County shows Robert 34 years living with his wife Virginia (21 yrs) and his occupation is listed as a farm laborer. They have a daughter Belinda (2 yrs).

Age 55 - The 1900 Census for Loudoun County shows Robert (55 yrs) living with his wife (41 yrs) and two children. The second daughter's name is Goldie (17 yrs).

Age 75 - The 1920 Census indicate that the two daughters are no longer living with Robert (65 yrs) and Virginia (50 yrs). They have been married for 33 years. Living with them is a grand daughter Ann Virginia Howell.

Age 85 - The 1930 Census for Loudoun Co. shows Robert as 83 years and his wife is 72 years. Robert admits to not being able to read or write but Virginia was literate.

Last Will and Testament dtd 01-09-1930. In the name of God, Amen: I, Robert Stickles, of Loudoun County, Virginia hereby make this my last will and testament.
I. I give and bequeath to my daughter, Belinda W. Howell, one dollar to be paid to her in cash.

II. I give and bequeath to my daughter, Goldie Payne, one dollar to be paid to her in cash.

III. I give and bequeath to my beloved wife, Virginia Stickles, all of the remainder of my property both personal and real, for and during her life, said property consisting of my interest in the house and lot near the Town of Purcellville where I now reside and all notes and bonds and other personal effects whatsoever that I may be possessed of at my decease.

IV. From and after the decease of my said wife, I give and devise to my granddaughter, Amy Virginia Holder, all of my interest in the aforesaid house and lot near Purcellville and request that my said wife keep intact all of my personal property of whatever kind and at her death devise the same to my said granddaughter, Amy Virginia Holder.

V. I hereby appoint my said wife executrix of this my last will and desire that no security be required of her as such.

VI. Witness my hand this the 9th day of January, 1930. Robert (X - his mark) Stickles.

VII. Signed, published and acknowledged by Robert Stickles as and for his last will, in the presence of us, who, in his presence, have hereto subscribed our names as witnesses. Maurice Brown and Henry Jacobs. Clerks Office of the Circuit Court of Loudoun County to wit; October 2, 1930 thereto who also proved the handwriting and attestation of Maurice Brown the other subscribing witness the said will is admitted to record and probate as the last will and testament of said decedent. And on motion of Virginia Stickles the executrix therein named, who made oath and qualified as such by executing a bond in the penalty of Fifty Dollars conditioned according to law certificate is granted her for obtaining a probate of the said will in due form and said bond is recorded. No security required by direction of Testator. A Copy - Teste: E. O. Russell.c.c.
