The following obit for Horace appeared in the January 19, 1987 Winchester Star:
Horace Myers Gardner, 71, of 21 Page St. Berryville, died Friday in Winchester Medical Center. Mr. Gardner was born Dec. 24, 1915 in Rippon, W. VA.; the son of John J and Minner Homar Gardner. He was a retired carpenter and a World War II veteran.
He was married to Rose Stickel. Surviving with his wife are a son, O.C. Gardner of Berryville; two daughters, Jane McDonald and Linda Jones, both of Berryville; two sisters, Edith Jenkins and Mary Levi, both of Berryville; and two grandchildren. Two brothers, Howard Gardner and John Gardner, are deceased.
A funeral will be Tuesday at 4 PM at Enders Funeral Home, Berryville, with Dr. Daniel L Garrett officiating. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Berryville.
Pallbearers will be Bill Lee, David Longerbeam, Bill McDonald, Marshall Longerbeam, Gary Elsea and Russell Lloyd. Friends may call at any time at the Gardner home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Enders Fire Company and Rescue Squad Building Fund.
