Richard spent his early life in Springfield, MA, graduating from Technical High School. Further education was obtained from CRL School of Electronics, Hartford, CT and the University of Houston, Houston, TX. His military service was in the U.S. Army from 1952-1954. He served in the signal corps and was stationed at Fort Monmouth, NJ and White Sands Missile Range New Mexico after basic training at Camp Gorden, Georgia. Form 1954 to 1958, he was employed in the Electrical Engineering Development section of the Schlumberger Well Surveying Corp. in Houston, TX. IN January 1959, he became a staff member at Lincoln Laboratory - a research and development facility operated by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, located in Lexington, Mass. and since 1960, has resided in nearby Chelmsford, Mass.
