Obituary

Dixie Cannon, 86, of Fort Dodge, passed away on Thursday, June 16, 2011, at the Fort Dodge Villa Care Center.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. in the Chapel of the Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home with the Rev. Anita Johnson, Pastor of Friendship Haven, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.

Survivors include her son, Steve of Ketchikan, Alaska; sister, Marilyn Hale of Omaha, NE; brothers, Marshall Miller and Richard Miller Jr. both of Pierre, SD; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Grace (Bunch) Miller; and a sister, Sandra Lee Miller.

Dixie's mother was Inez Marshall Miller, Richard Miller's first wife, who died when Dixie was three years old. Grace Bunch was Richard's second wife.

Dixie Miller was born on November 2, 1924 in Pierre, SD. She attended and graduated from high school in Pierre, SD. She then attended Art School in Chicago. In 1947, she was united in marriage to Samuel Cannon and the couple made their home in Fort Dodge. Dixie worked at Jim's Floor Covering for a number of years. She also volunteered her time at the gift shop at Trinity Regional Medical Center. Dixie was a member of United Methodist Church.
