Samuel E. Cannon, 89, of Fort Dodge died Sunday May 8, 2011 at the Fort Dodge Villa Care Center.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home with Rev. Stephen Bibb, pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. A visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Sam is survived by his wife, Dixie, son; Steve of Ketchikan, Alaska, sister; Dorothy (Richard) Mann, nephew; Joe Mann, and niece; Marilu Mann all of Minneapolis, MN.

Sam was preceded in death by his parents, D.A (Joe) and Louise (Stickel) Cannon and a brother, James.

Samuel Edward Cannon was born September 22, 1921 in Fort Dodge. He attended the Fort Dodge Public Schools and graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High. He then attended the Fort Dodge Community College. In November of 1945 he received his honorable discharge. He eventually returned to Fort Dodge with his future wife, Dixie Miller. They were united in marriage in Fort Dodge and established their home in Fort Dodge. He was employed with the Georgia Pacific for many years. Sam was a model train enthusiast, hunter, and wood worker.

Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.

Residence History: After military service, He eventually returned to Fort Dodge with his future wife, Dixie Miller. They were united in marriage in Fort Dodge and established their home in Fort Dodge.
