My grandfather Percy hated his name – most of his chums called him “Bill.” His nicknames for his sisters were colorful: Miggie for Margaret; Louie for Louise; and Pudgie for Elizabeth – that the latter’s name was Elizabeth I didn’t know until I visited Farmingdale a few years ago.
