Comments: The following is from Jonathan Long's Ancestry.com Account

Identity of Frederick Slaughter's wife: There are a couple of at least superficially
conflicting sources regarding the identify of Frederick's wife. First, we have
the D.A.R. application membership by a descendant (through son Philip), who
gave her name as Katherine Stigler (no dates). Second, descendants of the line
through Elizabeth Slaughter, wife of Jeremiah Wilson, identified her name as
Elizabeth (likely she was named after her mother). Furthermore, Elizabeth Slaughter
is buried in Guernsey County Ohio, born with the date above and died as shown
above. This is shortly before Frederick Slaughter was baptized in the Salem Baptist
Church. He is shown singly at the time of the baptism. Jeremiah and presumably his
wife Elizabeth were also members of the church. However, there is no other entry
showing Frederick with a wife, so presumably he was a widower after Elizabeth died in 1842.

Because the sources of the information are all related to the same man (and DNA
has shown that they are the same family), there is no particular reason to choose
one over the other. A more logical explanation is that Katherine was the first, formal
name, and Elizabeth was a second, more commonly used name. For now, I assume
that her maiden name was some variant of Stiegler, which appears to have been a more
typical spelling for Pennsylvania Dutch of that family name.

An alternative explanation is that there were two wives, but there is no evidence from
the family structure (or any records) to suggest that there were two. And one woman
born in 1767 could easily account for the 18 years of child bearing needed to produce all
the known children.

Another explanation is that one of the descendants' was confused in naming the wife of
a different Frederick Slaughter, for example, the individual I have identified as Frederick
Jr. in this tree. Or that the were two elder Frederick Slaughters, including one claimed
to have been born in 1743 in Saxony. I have commented on that claim in my entry for
Frederick (husband of this entry).

In the meantime, I am continue to pursuing new leads by reviewing the full D.A.R.
record and analyzing DNA evidence to test my hypotheses.

New Autosomal DNA evidence combined with tax records suggest that Katherine Elizabeth
was a daughter of Henry Stickel/Stickle of Loudoun county, VA (see Message Boards).
Specifically, we have a triangulated DNA segment shared among her descendants
and descendants of Henry's son George. We also have hundreds of shared matches,
a large percentage of which can be traced to one family or the other.
