Comments: May p.84 Joshua Sears was Constable of Harwich in 1745. He was a man of large stature, and of great strength and hardihood. In 1746, he removed to Middletown, CT, and purchased land on the east side of the Conneticut river, in that part of town afterward set off as Chatham. In Col. Rec. Ct., vol. X, we find the memorial of Rebecca Sears, admx, to the Assembly, setting forth that debts exceeded personal estate by L 135 16 10, and asking liberty to sell real estate. Mar. 9, 1732, Ebenr Nickerson deeded to Joshua Sears, for the consideration of L 532, "about 36 acres of land with the buildings, &c., eastward of Point of Rocks, Harwich, 3 Lots: First, the eastern-most originally laid out to Capt. Jona. Bangs; ---. Second, to successors Mark Snow; --. Third, the westward to Thos. Clark, bounded on Dea. Chillingsworth Foster, Nathaniel Hopkins, John Freeman, and Clark & Cole lot." I have found no record of marriage of Theophilus, or Benjamin Sears; but think Dr. Willard Leonard Sears, (p. 578 #1) b. Glastenbury, CT, Sep 16, 1816, derived from one of them, perhaps Benjamin, as he named his eldest son Benjamin Willard Sears.
